08/12/2001 - "20K Miles"

We discover the bike has a secondhand speedo and has actually only covered 20K Miles. Which explains the Air Filter date and mileage. The Battery Cover has also been found - Splendid !

18/11/2001 - "The Dent Flyer"

Sunday Morning I decided to push the Supa 5 from my garage round to Simon's. So with a screwdriver dropped through where the brake lever pin should be and the battery wedged in place I set off.. 10 minutes later I arrived.

We filled the battery and put it on "Charge" (well hooked it to a PSU adjusted to 7 volts actually). Then turned our attention to the bike. Cleaned the carb out (float was stuck), checked the sparking plug (oily) removed the petrol tank and air filter which was marked 5/9/1977 10549 (The bike had now covered 39000). Replaced the airfilter and refitted the battery. The tank and tap were gunged up, so for the first test we prepared small amount of petroil in a bottle and some plastic tubing.

As I held the Smirnof Ice bottle aloft Simon paused, mentally preparing for the kicking and cursing ahead, then firmly brought his foot down on the kickstarter. Of the three of us perhaps the bike was the most surprised by what happened next, billowing smoke and a steady thrumming engine note.. Starting first time, for the first time in 5 years.

The bottle was drunk quicker than a party goer on the 6 by 6. As the engine stopped we shook hands, less than an hour had elapsed.

After cleaning the fuel tap, refitting the tank and mixing more petroil, we completed the preflight checks (ensuring the screwdriver and battery were firmly wedged in place). Great hilarity insued as we both briefly tested the bike. Simon proposed that the bike should herewith be known as the "Dent Flyer" (This request will be given due consideration by the naming and standards committee).

10/11/2001 - "We'll just dog it into the back of the car, Bro"

Another visit to Dave and with his help we collect the Supa (See Title..). We take a steady drive back, then survey the Supa.. On it's side, mostly in the back of the car.. We look at each other.. Hmm.. "Now what we need is someone familar with manual labour.."

25/10/2001 - "Starting"

Found a Supa 5 in need of restoration !
